Dagon Estate wines are the product of the superb terroir of our own vineyards located in Valea Nucetului, in the most valuable stretch of Dealu Mare DOC.
The grapes for this wine come from Sandridge, a small, sandy parcel situated high on a ridge in the middle of our old Feteasca Neagra vineyard. Naturally low yields of less than three tonnes per hectare produce small, intensely aromatic grapes. This is our most valuable fruit and the Reserve wines are produced only in selected vintages.
Following separate manual harvesting the grapes were destemmed and fermented naturally in an open-top fermenter. Following malolactic fermentation, the wine was aged in new Romanian oak barrels for two years. Only one 500-litre barrel was selected for our first ever Reserve wine. Deep purple, it has an intense and complex bouquet of dark berries, plums and spices. Although tannins are already well integrated this wine will keep for a decade or more. 666 bottles were filled with pride in April 2018.
